This home was an especially satisfying project for me to work on. Originally built in 1911 by the owner’s great-great-grandfather, it has been in the family for 108 years. The owner, who grew up in the home, wanted to bring the home back to the original beauty, keeping the antique character and charm. Having been remodeled a couple of times over the years, the majority of the home’s walls had been covered up with sheetrock. To restore it back to original features, all sheetrock from the downstairs walls was removed, exposing the Long Leaf Pine ship lap.
The process also involved repairing all the ceilings as well as the upstairs drywall. All the interior doors and trim are original but new electrical wiring, plumbing and heating/air conditioning system was installed. The interior updates included insulation blown into the walls along with new paint, updating the kitchen with new lower cabinets, sink, dishwasher and granite countertop. Both bathrooms received new cabinets, fixtures and custom tile showers. The kitchen and bathroom have new vinyl plank flooring. We refinished the remainder of the Long Leaf Pine flooring on the main floor. Long Leaf Pine is an extinct species of tree that is now very difficult to find and very expensive. The exterior of the home was repaired and repainted.
